FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Nova Southeastern Sharks in a midweek road matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF:
The Spartans pressed the Sharks right from the whistle with a chance on goal in the first three minutes from Kate Russell. The first goal for the Spartans came off a Sydni Dennis corner in the 22nd minute, finding the head of Brooke Kittner. Lindsey Emerson found herself in the right place at the right time for the Spartans second goal. A mishandled cross by the Sharks keeper, led to the ball at Emerson's feet for her to tap in. The defensive efforts from the Spartans held the Sharks to just three shots and zero corners.

SECOND HALF:
The Sharks came out with urgency in the second half, they would maintain majority of possession leading up to their goal. In the 61st minute, a flick on from her teammate into the Spartans box, Mariela Dolan hit a one-time volley past Smith. The Sharks tried to build on the momentum, but the Spartans found their groove once again and were able to hold their lead. Julia Lozowski would close out the game in the 71st minute, lacing it past the keeper from just inside the Sharks box.
