Tampa Swimmers Continue Success at Delta State Invitational
CLEVELAND, Miss. - After two days of competition at the annual Delta State Invitational, The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams have both enjoyed success at the meet that includes several top teams.
In the latest round of finals races, Tampa took a total of three races. On the women's side, Jessie Bardin won the 500 Free with a time of 5:01.14, while Kelsey Lubbers championed the 200 IM in 2:06.84. Chris O'Linger won the men's 500 Free while posting a time of 4:25.65.
Through 12 events, Tampa's women are in second place with a total of 244 points. Missouri State is the leader at 269 as New Orleans, Delta State and Arkansas-Little Rock each trail the Spartans to round out the top five.
The UT men are also second through 12 events with 199 points. Missouri State leads the way with 218 while Delta State and New Orleans are third and fourth respectively.
In day two prelims, the UT women claimed four first-place finishes, including the 200 Medley Relay team of Allison Vetter, Ashley Arzadon, Lindsay Calimer and Kim Tench (1:49.93). Tampa also had individual top finishes by Jennifer Jenkins (400 IM, 4:36.26), Dana Glodek (100 Fly, 57.87) and Bardin (200 Free, 1:51.70)
Tampa's men began its prelims with a 200 Medley Relay title as the team of Patrick Murray, Matt Kramer, Paul LaPorta and Michael Verdi outswam its competition with a mark of 1:32.94. UT won three individual races, including O'Linger (400 IM, 3:56.49), Jeff Fiore (200 Free, 1:41.34) and Murray (100 Backstroke, 51.77).
UT now heads into Sunday's final day of competition within striking distance in the men's and women's sides.
