UT Swimmers In Contention at Bluegrass Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Heading into the final day of competition, The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams are among the top performers at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.
The UT women are currently second with 419 points, as Johns Hopkins is first with 457. Savannah College of Art and Design, Wingate and Limestone round out the top five in the 15 team field. Tampa's men moved up to third place after ranking fourth on Thursday. The Spartans (379) trail Wingate (444.5) and Limestone (386.5) and lead Washington & Lee (361) and Savannah College of Art and Design (208).
In women's action, Jennifer Jenkins won the 400 IM for Tampa with a time of 4:35.37. Jessie Bardin also championed the 200 Free in 1:50.50. The Spartans also won the 800 Free Relay behind Megan Garland, Hannah Hudson, Madison Flake and Bardin, with a time of 7:37.19.
Alex Hetland gave the UT men their lone first-place finish of the day, winning the 100 Breast in 53.04.
Tampa will conclude action at the BMC Championships on Saturday. The meet is the final tune-up for the NCAA Championships, which are slated for Mar. 11-14 in Houston, Texas.
