Tampa Completes First Day of NCAA Swimming Championships
Women's 200 Medley Relay scores in day one.
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams finished competition in day one of four at the 2018 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Spartan women concluded the day at No. 23 with seven points, while the men also swam.
UT Men's Highlights
- Cameron Newton placed 28th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.91.
- Brett Saunders was 31st in the 200 IM at 1:50.23.
- UT was 18th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:33.90 from Saunders, Daniel Jacob, Victor Philaire and Newton.
UT Women's Highlights
- Brittany Bayes was 20th in the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:15.79.
- Freshman Jessie Tobin swam to a 28th place finish with a time of 10:21.37 in the 1,000 Free.
- In the 200 IM, McKenzie Street was 16th at 2:05.25.
- Freshman Hana van Loock was 18th in the 50 Free with a time of 23.37. Megan Waddell was 24th at 23.50. Molly O'Hara also competed to a 29th place finish with a time of 23.59 while Gabbie Gauntt was 31st at 23.64. Katie Bayes was 33rd at 23.67.
- The 200 Medley Relay team was sixth in the consolation finals, earning six points. The team of K. Bayes, Street, O'Hara and Waddell was clocked at 1:43.37.
All-Americans
Tampa has yet to register an individual All-American at the 2018 Championships.
