Both Swimming Teams in Top-10 as Nationals Approach
CLEVELAND - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams are both in the top-10 of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, with the Spartan men coming in sixth while the women are fourth in the final release of the 2018-19 season.
UT's men are now sixth, which is up three spots from being ninth in the third installment. The Tampa women are back in the top-five at number-four after previously coming in at eighth.
On the women's side, Drury, UC San Diego, Tampa, and Nova Southeastern round out the top five spots. On the men's side Delta State, Indianapolis, Lindenwood, and Grand Valley complete the top five. In total, twenty-six men's and twenty-seven women's teams earned votes.
In women's action, UT is coming off a first-place finish at the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Championships and has yet to lose this season. The Spartans boast wins over nationally-ranked Nova Southeastern, Florida Southern and Saint Leo by a combined score of 585-267. The Spartans were also first at the four-day Spartan Invite and the Tampa Relays.
The Spartan men are coming off a second-place finish at the SSC Championships. UT has defeated nationally-ranked Nova Southeastern and Saint Leo and was second at the Spartan Invite before winning the Tampa Relays.
Tampa concludes its season at the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships, which is scheduled for March 13-16 in Indianapolis.
The poll aims to measure the top teams in head-to-head competition. The rankings are voted on by CSCAA-member coaches.
