Tampa Swimming Set for Season Opener with St. Thomas

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams are set to host their first home meet of the season on Friday against St. Thomas University.

Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans vs. St. Thomas University Bobcats (NAIA)

Date/Time: Friday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m.

Location: UT Aquatics Center || 507 UT University Drive || Tampa, Fla. 33606

Last Time Out: The Spartans are returning to the pool after a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The women finished seventh at the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and went 7-1 in dual meets last season. Their only loss came from, Division I program, Florida State. The men finished the season with a dual meet record of 3-4 and sent two swimmers to the NCAA Championships.

About the Spartans: The women feature six returning 2021 First Team All-Americans. They include Julia Augustsson, Elizaveta Bazarova, Madysen Barnes, Johanna Koether, Courtney Sherwood, and Jessie Tobin. The men are looking to start the year strong as they prepare to defend their Sunshine State Conference title in February.

About the Bobcats: St. Thomas started their season with a meet against Ave Maria University. The women took first in every event and won 223-23. Andrea Guerrero led the way in her second year at STU with a 27-point performance. The men defeated the Gyrenes as well with a score of 219-37.

Matchup History: This is the first season of competition for St. Thomas. The Spartans will be the Bobcats' second opponent in history.
