No. 12 Spartans Split Meet with Mocs

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams hosted SSC opponent Florida Southern College on Friday.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Men's Final: No. 10 Florida Southern Mocs 181, No. 12 Tampa Spartans 81
Women's Final: No. 12 Tampa Spartans 190, No.19 Florida Southern Mocs 72

Location: UT Aquatics Center | Tampa, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The meet totaled 28 events, including 14 for the men and 14 for the women.
The women won 10 out of 14 of their events in the meet.

TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):

The Men's 200 Medley Relay of Hugo Bustamante, Jared Mindek, Winn Aung, Noah Paut placed second with a time of 1:33.88.
Parker Knollman took third in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 52.87.
In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Mindek placed third with a time of 59.15.
Ian Morgan was the runner up registering a time of 1:53.63 in the 200 Yard Butterfly.
Paut turned in Tampa's first top finish of the meet in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.26. Mikael Haugen took third with a time of 21.67.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Paut was the runner-up in the 100 Yard Freestyle finishing at 46.92.
Knollman finished second in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:52.61.
With a time of 2:10.03, Mindek placed third in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.
Aung took second place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 51.62.
In the 200 Yard IM, Gabe Parnell finished second with a time of 1:56.83.
The Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay took first place with a time of 1:24.35. The team was made up of Paut, Haugen, Brian Daugherty, and Hugo Bustamante.

TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):

The Women's 200 Medley Relay started the meet with first place finish, registering a time of 1:47.84. The team was made up of Courtney Sherwood, Julia Augustsson, Katie Horan, and Elizaveta Bazarova.
In the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, Jessie Tobin finished second at 10:43.43. Hannah Bennett placed third at 10:45.18.
Emma Chestang took finished on top in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.10. Megan Goldthorpe placed third with a time of 1:57.06.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Mady Barnes placed first at 58.50 and Sierra Gillan took second at 1:00.28.
Tampa swept the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Augustsson finished first at 1:05.49, Anja Oca finished second at 1:07.60, and Alli McFarland placed third at 1:07.70.
The Spartans would then claim the top three spots in the 200 Yard Butterfly. Sherwood placed first with a time of 2:07.61, Horan took second at 2:09.15, and Carlee Sanchez-Hegarty finished third with a time of 2:10.06.
Bazarova finished first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.58, and Kristen Wagner took second at 24.90.
Chestang took first in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 53.02. Bazarova finished second at 53.33.
Tampa swept the 200 Yard Backstroke. Barnes finished at 2:07.45, Sherwood finished at 2:08.74, and Lara Wiedemann took third at 2:10.57.
Augustsson took first in the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:23.42. Oca took third at 2:24.75.
Holly Wessel finished 5:13.87 and Tobin finished 5:14.56 to take second and third in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Horan finished first with a time of 57.97. Wagner finished third with a time of 59.78.
In the 200 Yard IM, Barnes placed second and finished with a time of 2:11.80. Madi Lauger took third with a time of 2:12.21.
The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with Roma Vrijhof, Bazarova, Erika DiPietro, and Kate Elnicki finished first with a time of 1:39.60.

UP NEXT:

The Spartans will travel to the space coast to take on Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech on October 12. The meet begins at 2:00 p.m. in Melbourne.
