Tampa Competes in Day 2 of SSC Championships
CLEARWATER, Fla. – The second day of the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships ended with Nova Southeastern on top of the standings for both men and women. The Sharks tallied four gold medals throughout the night.
CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
Top Performances:
In the women's competition, Savannah Brennan of Florida Tech finished on top in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10.04.08. In the 200 Yard IM, Nova Southeastern's Savanna Best set a new Conference Record, finishing at 1:59.29. Luna Mertins took home a gold medal in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 22.74. Celina Marquez, Best, Aleksandra Maslova, and Cassie Wright set a new conference record of 1:39.69 as part of NSU's 200 Yard Medley Relay.
Luca Alessandrini from Nova Southeastern finished first in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, on the men's side, turning in a time of 9:03.19. With a time of 1:46.05, Matteo Zampese of Florida Southern earned a gold medal. Kyle Micallef would win the Mocs' second gold while setting a meet record in the 50 Free with a time of 19.64. Nova Southeastern's 200 Medley Relay would set another new meet record as Martin Hemminghyth, Robert Spekis, Steven Aimable, and Anton Muller would finish at 1:27.11.
