Spartans Open Season at Day One of FGCU Invite
FORT MYERS, Fla. - At day one of two at the 2024 Florida Gulf Coast Eagle Fall Invitational, held at the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center, the University of Tampa women's swimming team delivered strong performances across various events. At the conclusion of the evening, Tampa stands at second overall among five teams, and was the overall leader heading into the diving section of the event.
Top Tampa Performers
- In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Tampa's "A" team secured 2nd place with a time of 1:33.80. The team consisted of Brooke Mahneke, Tilde Morin, Alicia Soderlind, and Roma Vrijhof, who swam impressive splits, including Morin's notable 22.83 seconds. The Spartans time was the top NCAA Division II time of the 2024-25 season, besting the previous mark by 1.5 seconds.
- In the 500-yard freestyle, Tampa freshman Burlingtyn Bokos and Laura Hodgson finished first and second with times of 4:54.80 and 4:54.84, respectively. The performances were also the second and third fastest times of the season nationally.
- For the 200-yard individual medley, Tampa's Carlie Tyler dominated with a winning time of 2:04.01, while teammate Sierra Gillan came in 4th. Tyler's time goes down as the fastest to date this season among D2 swimmers.
- In the 50-yard freestyle, Tilde Morin placed 6th with a time of 23.76, followed closely by Sophia Frece in 7th with 23.92 seconds.
- Tampa's 400-yard medley relay team finished 3rd with a time of 3:48.10, supported by solid performances from Kim McCaffrey, Katie Ramsey, Sierra Gillan, and Brooke Mahneke.

- The Spartans return to the pool on Saturday at the Eagle Invitational for a pair of sessions. The morning session begins at 10 a.m., and will conclude with a 6 p.m., final session.
