
Spartan Track Completes First Meet of Spring
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa track team opened its spring at the Bulls Invitational, which was hosted by the University of South Florida
Steven Dennig nearly missed a school record while finishing eighth in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:55.97. Jake Bailey (25th, 1:59.89), Zach McLain (27th, 2:00.60) and Kevin Harley (29th, 2:01.85) also participated in the 800 for the Spartans.
Peter Orgass was 44th in the 1,500 Meter (4:22.13) as Michael Zwijacs ran the 3,000 Meter (7th, 9:03.00) along with teammates Chris Rego (16th, 9:21.57), Lewis Price (21st, 9:33.58) and Mike Leone (25th, 9:52.14).
Orgass also ran the 5,000 Meter to a 21st place finish (16:05.72) while the 4x400 Meter Relay team placed 12th while clocking a 3:32.32 performance.
In women's competition, Lindsay Smith was 29th in the 100 Meter Dash (12.82) as Jocelyn Doina was 36th (13.62) in the event.
Smith (31st, 27.36) and Doina (40th, 31.01) both ran the 200 Meter Dash. Natalie Herzberg was in the 400 Meter Dash, placing 23rd with a time of 1:07.84.
Kelly Hagan was 22nd in the 800 Meter (2:23.30) as teammates Iolani Scanlon (37th, 2:34.14) and Abby Patterson (39th, 2:37.28) also ran for Jarrett Slaven's Spartans.
Hagan led a host of Spartans in the 1,500 Meter as she was 26th (4:49.36). Scanlon, Christa McLeod, Dana Glodek, Patterson, Jenna Edwards and Aimee Epps also participated.
Courtney Ragan was in the 3,000 Meter with a 15th-place finish (12:21.79) while Kelsey Burnett ran the 100 Meter Hurdles with a 29th-place effort of 1:11.93. The UT 4x400 Meter Relay team was also 14th (4:28.07).
The Spartans return to competition on Friday at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
