School Records Set as Tampa Hosts Distance Classic
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track teams hosted the UT Distance Classic and also honored their seniors in a meet that featured three school records.
Top Spartan Performers (Men)
- The Spartans opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 4x200 Relay. The team of Daniel Perez, Sebastian Alvarado Roldán, Ian Jordan and Anthony Russo posted a winning time of 2:16.94.
- Jayden Berry placed second in the 400 Hurdles after being timed at 1:03.43.
- A sixth-place time of 4:13.55 came from Brian Veit in the 1,500. Aidan Barich was seventh while Sebastian Reisch placed ninth to make it three Spartans in the top 10.
- The Spartans set a 4x100 Relay school record as Maurice Gentry, Wade Martin, Riley Pelletier and Jake Swad won in 42.57.
- John Trombley was the 400 runner-up with a time of 49.50. Ian Jordan also finished inside the top 10 at eighth.
- Swad was the top Spartan in the 100 as his time of 11.27 was good for second. Pelletier and Martin for fourth and fifth respectively as Gentry was seventh and Khalil Snell 10th.
- Trombley was fourth in the 200 with a 22.66. Pelletier was fifth while Swad was seventh.
- Aaron Engelhardt led UT in the 5,000 with a fourth-place time of 14:51.98. George Alexander was sixth in the event.
- UT concluded the night winning the 4x400 Relay with a time of 3:30.73 from Trombley, Shane Cohen, Martin and Joey Coulter.
Top Spartan Performers (Men)
- Tampa took the second and third finish in the 400 Hurdles. Allison Murphy was the runner-up at 1:07.28 while Kayden Kruchoski was third in 1:08.40.
- In the 1,500, freshman Katelyn Deitrick was fifth to lead the Spartans at 4:51.25. Meagan Moreno was the next to finish the race, at sixth.
- UT set a new school record in the 4x100 Relay with a time of 48.74. The team of Jada Bolhuis, Lillian Hicks, Jaime Hicks and Camilla Nicholas also finished first.
- Nicole Sullivan was second in the 400 at 1:00.54. Macie Sisson was third while Lily Canoy placed seventh.
- Nicholas won the 100 with a time of 12.39. Bolhuis was third as J. Hicks finished ninth.
- Zahra Wilson was the top UT runner in the 800 as she was 10th in 2:24.49.
- Nicholas also won the 200, being timed at a school record time of 25.36. Bolhuis was the runner-up as L. Hicks was fourth and J. Hicks 10th.
- Murphy was second in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 16.29.
- Tabitha Suggs was the fastest Spartan in the 5,000, finishing 10th overall with a time of 17:54.70.
- In the final event of the evening, Tampa won the 4x400 Relay with a time of 4:03.08. Sullivan, Kruchoski, L. Hicks and Wilson represented UT in the event.
