Bio
LaMont Life joined the University of Tampa track program in the fall of 2024.
He concluded his third and final season with the Jacksonville University Dolphin’s cross-country and track programs. As an assistant to head coach Garman, Life’s leadership, commitment to the team, and support lead to the best year as program for the men’s cross country team. JU's men maintained an above average GPA of 3.4, raised 10k in fundraising and personal best across the board was shatter in comparison to previous years.
The XC men’s team consistently produced scoring times throughout the season. Under Coach Vela (Jumps, Hurdles) Life’s contribution led to two indoor Conference champions in the High Jump and Triple Jump. Jumps scored 34 points leading to an overall score of 118 points (3rd) at ASUN Conference Championship.
During the Outdoor season his efforts resulted in 26 points for the group including 100h (8) and 400h (4) leading to overall score of 125 points (4th) at ASUN Outdoor Conference Championship. Life has been a most welcome addition to the Dolphin team and community throughout his time with program.
During the 2022-2023 track and field season with the Dolphins, Life, along with then interim Head Coach Vela, played a key role in coaching JU's sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers to one two time National All-American (HJ), three indoor conference champions, six outdoor conference champions, and four NCAA preliminary qualifiers.
In the previous season, 2021-2022, as a volunteer coach under the guidance of Coach Vela and Griggs, Life's assistance resulted in one athlete qualifying for the U.S. Olympics Trials 2021 (triple jump), one Second Team All-American (high jump), and three NCAA Outdoor National Championships qualifiers. He has also coached four scholarship athletes at Miami University, Flagler University, Savannah State University, and West Virginia Wesleyan.
Life served as the Head Coach for Wolfson High School Boys from 2022 to 2023. He also worked as the Sprints & Long Jump Assistant Coach at University of Christian, Jacksonville, FL in August 2021.
Achieved FHSAA District 1A State Long Jump Champion (7th place), FHSAA Regional 1A District 4 Honors in 100m, Long Jump, and 4x400m events. Founded the 4LIFE Track Club in 2019.
In 2019, five athletes qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics, winning 20 medals, and three Middle School City Championships. HE has also served as a Board Member and Head Coach for Young Achievers Sprint Club Inc. from 2016 to 2018.
In 2015, his club won 55 Gold Medals, 57 Silver Medals, and 43 Bronze Medals. He achieved the 2015 AAU Region 9 800m Champion title, top 5 in Long Jump, and top 10 in 400m. In the same year, placed in the top 5 in the 200m and 400m at the 2015 USATF Region 16 Track and Field Championship. Personal Background LaMont Life, a Jacksonville, Florida native, graduated from Terry Parker High School where he received accolades from participating in band, swimming, cross country, track and field, baseball, basketball and football throughout Junior High School and High School athletic career.
Immediately following graduation, Life enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he retired as a Navy Chief Petty Officer with 21 years of Honorable service. While serving, he received his A.A. degree in General Studies and later received his B.S. in Computer Studies from University of Maryland University College.
Life holds a USATF Level 1 and Level 2 (Jumps) Coaching certification as well as a Master Endorsement in the Long Sprints from USTFCCCA. Life is a father to three: Kayla, Jazmyne, and JJ and Grand POP POP to Mbur.
