#1 Spartans Cruise Past Dowling
TAMPA, Fla - The top-ranked University of Tampa volleyball team handed Dowling College a 3-0 loss. With the win, UT improves to 3-1 on the season as DC drops to 0-6.
The Spartans dismantled the Golden Lions in the first two games, winning 30-19 and 30-16. In game three, Tampa pulled out a 34-32 advantage to decide the match.
Alisha Green led the Spartans with nine kills as the balanced offense included 11 UT players with kills. Gabriela Saade was tops in assists with 40. Margeaux Sinibaldi added to her school record with 21 digs. Neely Thomson registered two blocks.
The match also marked the debut of heralded freshman, Ana Kalisnik. In two games, Kalisnik registered seven kills with a .308 attack percentage. She also had five digs, one service ace and a block in her first match as a Spartan.
Overall, the Spartans hit .364 as a team while holding Dowling to .188. UT's efforts were fueled by hitting percentages of .415 and .419 in the first two games.
The Spartans now travel to Seaside, Calif., where they are slated to play four matches at the Cal State-Monterey Bay Tournament. UT opens the tourney on Friday against Saginaw Valley State at 1 p.m.
