Spartans Cruise Past Tritons
TAMPA, Fla. - The top-ranked University of Tampa volleyball team registered a commanding 3-0 victory in the second meeting of the season with Eckerd College. The Spartans improve to 25-2 on the year and 12-1 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Tritons drop to 21-9 and 7-6 in league action.
Tampa got out to a quick lead in game one, where it eventually won the game by a 30-19 score. The Spartans answered with 30-24 and 30-20 advantages in the final two games.
Erin Clark led all Spartans with 13 kills while Alisha Green and Melissa Vanderhall joined her in double figures with 10 apiece. Gabriela Saade led UT with 39 assists as Meghan Sherman came on in the final game, finishing with five assists. Clark finished with a .440 hitting percentage as Green was .500 and Vanderhall .429.
Margeaux Sinibaldi led the Spartans with 20 digs as Katelen Dixon had 11. Tampa finished with five blocks as Green and Vanderhall each had two.
The UT defense held Eckerd to a .135 attack percentage, compared to a .398 mark for the Spartans.
Tampa returns to action on Sunday as it travels to Saint Leo for a 6 p.m., meeting with the Lions.
