The Tampa Spartans get a clean sweep over the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans sweep the Nova Southeastern Sharks three sets to zero, with scores of 25-22, 27-25, and 25-18. The Spartans move to 5-4 in the SSC, while the Sharks fall to 2-7.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 | UT took the first set 25-22. Freshman outside hitter, Sorrel Houghton dominated the offense for the Spartans, ending the set with a team-high of nine kills at a .353 hitting percentage. Defensively, on the other hand, Nicole Dominguez let the team, with nine of her total 14 digs coming in the first set. The Sharks, could not seem to find the court with their serves, missing four in the set, one of them being on game point.
Set 2 | In the second game, Houghton once again led the UT offense with five kills, followed by Dominguez and Nylah Demps with three. Dominguez also led the team defensively at the end of this set with 13 digs total. Tampa had three service aces in the second, coming from Taylor Fosler, Sammy Mueller, and Jen Aprile. The Sharks battled to the end, but despite their efforts, the Spartans headed into intermission ahead two sets to zero.
Set 3 | After intermission, Dominguez was the Spartan who stole the show on offense, adding four kills to her total of nine on the night. On defense, Demps and Molly McAlvany ended the match with seven digs apiece. Also, Sammy Mueller quarterbacked the offense to a clean sweep with 36 assists on the night. Tampa ended the third set with a final score of 25-18.
INSIDE THE STATS:
• Sorrel Houghton ended the match with a team-high of 16 kills at a .353 hitting percentage. Additionally, she had one dig, one assist, and one solo block for UT. This marked the sixth match she recorded 10 or more kills.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• Tampa leads the all-time series against the Sharks 30-1. The Spartans only loss against Nova Southeastern came in November of 2008.
