Women's Volleyball to Host SSC Rival Florida Southern

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa is set to host SSC Rival Florida Southern, tomorrow, October 31 at 7 p.m. in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.

The Match: University of Tampa (11-12, 6-6 SSC) vs. Florida Southern College (17-6, 11-1 SSC)

Date/Time: Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Lynn Fighting Knights defeated the Tampa Spartans in four sets in a road showdown. Sophomore Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans on offense with a career-high of 24 kills, followed by junior Alexandra Misca with a season-high of 10. The two hit .465 and .444 respectively. Freshman Kaitlyn Ajmani led the team on defense with 19 digs followed by senior Molly McAlvay with 10. Sammy Mueller quarterbacked the offense, ending the game with a season-high of 48 assists.

About the Spartans: The Spartans are led offensively by freshman outside hitter, Sorrel Houghton. Houghton currently sits with 233 kills on the season, averaging 2.99 kills per set and has an average hitting percentage of .242. Following Houghton on offense are the efforts of Nicole Dominguez, Nylah Demps, and Taylor Fosler, with 229, 187, and 175 kills respectively. Dominguez also currently leads the team on defense with 233 digs, followed by freshman Kaitlyn Ajmani with 155 and senior Kasey Reynolds with 137. Sophomore Sammy Mueller acts as the Spartan's starting setter and has 547 assists during this year's campaign, in addition to her 111 digs.

About the Moccasins:  The Moccasins are currently 17-6 overall, 11-1 in the SSC. FSC's only conference loss is to the No. 3 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. Offensively, Florida Southern is led by outside Nicole Mattson who has 349 kills with an average kill percentage of .245. Opposite Mattson on the outside pin is senior Anna Tovo who has logged 312 kills. The Mocs starting middles include Sydney Marshall and Allie Geary who have stated 182 and 136 kills respectively. Junior Bethany Besancenez acts as FSC's primary setter, sitting with 984 assists on the season, while Gabby Fresh suits up as Libero and leads the Mocs with 338 digs.

Series History:  Tampa takes the all-time series history against Florida Southern 72-54. The Spartans are on a two-game losing streak against the Mocs, UT lost in five during the last contest on Tuesday, September 19.

Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Florida Southern regular season athletic events are $5 for adults and $3 for Seniors, Military and visiting students. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge.
