SSC Championship / All-SSC History | Runners / Coaches of the Year
Zoe Jarvis of Tampa is named SSC Runner of the Year following her win at the SSC Championship. The Tampa, Florida native claimed the 2019 title with a time of 22:18.20, besting her teammate, and SSC Freshman of the Year, Aspen Gordon by 10 seconds. Jarvis is the eighth Spartan to be named SSC Runner of the Year and the first since 2011. Gordon, a product of Morton, Illinois, is the third Tampa runner to be named Freshman of the Year and the first since 2012. Jarvis and Gordon are the first teammates to win Runner and Freshman of the Year in the same season.
Tampa's Jarrett Slaven is honored as SSC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 15th time after leading his team to back-to-back league titles. The Spartans bested Saint Leo University, 34 to 45, for the conference championship with four runners finishing Top-10. Tampa has now amassed 15 league titles in women's cross country, which equals the total number of SSC championships among the other eight active programs. This year's Spartans squad is just the second conference team to win Runner, Freshman, and Coach of the Year honors in the same season.
Along with Jarvis, Sarah Edens of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is awarded First Team honors for the third consecutive season. Saint Leo's Ashley Lindeman repeats as a First Team member from 2018. Tampa's Sydney Rhodes and Saint Leo's Paige Patterson move up to the First Team after Second Team accolades a year ago.
