LAKELAND, FL. – The #1 University of Tampa Spartans split a doubleheader on the afternoon against #8 Florida Southern.

Final: #8 Florida Southern 11, #1 Tampa 8

Final: #1 Tampa 4, #8 Florida Southern 3

Location: Henley Field | Lakeland, FL. 

All-Time Series: This was the 225^th and 226^th meeting between these two programs. The Spartans are 114-112 against the Mocs.

GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Brayden Woodburn drew a one-out walk, and he advanced to second base on a wild pitch. J.D. Urso then followed with a single through the right side to advance Woodburn to third. Mike Valdez followed with a single up the middle to bring home Woodburn. Mid 1 | 1-0 Tampa
• Urso led the inning off with a single to left center, and he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Valdez followed with a double to left center to bring home Urso. Jhoander Irigoyen followed with a walk to give the Spartans first and second with nobody out. Later in the inning, with one out, Joe Stella drew a walk to give the Spartans the bases-loaded. Nico Saladino then flew out to center field to bring home Valdez. Mid 3 | 6-3 Florida Southern
• With one out, Woodburn singled through the left side. Urso then followed with a walk. Valdez then hit a groundball to the Mocs's third baseman, who stepped on third but then threw the ball past their first baseman and brought Urso into the score, and Valdez would go all the way to third on the play. With two outs, Irigoyen doubled to left field to bring home Valdez. Mid 4 | 6-5 Florida Southern
• With two outs and nobody on base, Valdez tripled to right center. Irigoyen followed with a double to left center that would bring home Valdez. Mid 6 | 11-6 Florida Southern
• Woodburn drew a walk to lead off the inning. Urso followed with a triple to right center to bring home Woodburn. With one out, Irigoyen flew out to right field to bring home Urso. Mid 8 | 11-8 Florida Southern

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Santiago Garavito would lead off the inning with a double to right center. With one out, King doubled to left center to bring home Garavito. Mid 5 | 2-1 Florida Southern
• With two outs, Ashby drew a walk. Woodburn followed by drawing a walk as well. Garavito followed with a double down the left-field line to bring home Ashby and advance Woodburn to third. After a pitching change, Cole Russo followed with a single down the right filed line to bring home Woodburn and Garavito. Mid 6 | 4-2 Tampa

• Jake Stipp started on the mound. He threw 6.2 innings while striking out 3 and giving up 2 earned runs. Stipp picked up the win in his outing and improved to 6-0 on the season.
• Ryan Stefiuk came in relief for Stipp. He threw 2.1 innings while striking out 1 and giving up 1 earned run. Stefiuk received his first save on the season.
