Three Spartans Named to All-SSC Team
Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team had three players represented on the 2006 all-SSC team, as announced by the Sunshine State Conference on Tuesday. Ricardo Cardoso and Devin Shaw were first-team selections while Ryan Maxwell was on the second-team. This marks the first time since 2003 that a Spartan has appeared on the first team.
Cardoso, a junior from Coral Springs, Fla., led the Spartans in scoring and was the league's first Offensive player of the Week as he opened his UT career with a school-record tying four goals in Tampa's victory over number-eight Clayton State. Cardoso finished the season with 14 goals, four assists and 32 points while registering three game-winning goals. His 87 shots and 49 shots on goal also led the team.
Shaw, a junior defender from Spring Hill, Fla., was the lone Spartan to start all 18 matches this season. He also led the team with 1,560 minutes and five assists. Shaw was a primary reason for Tampa outshooting its opponents 363-249 as the youthful team went 3-0-1 to conclude the season.
Maxwell, a sophomore from Clarendon, Jamaica, scored four goals and four assists in his first season with Tampa. He started 16 of 18 games and ranked second on the team with 38 shots.
