Lake Wales, Fla. - The Unversity of Tampa men's soccer team (5-2) dropped a tough match to Warner Southern (7-1) on Friday by a score of 3-0.
The match remained scoreless into the 51st minute until Pablo Cuevas broke through the Spartan back line and fed the ball past the diving Tampa keeper to give the Royals the 1-0 lead.
Warner Southern doubled their lead eight minutes later off a loose ball following a corner kick to give it a 2-0 cushion. The Royals added another goal in the 70th minute to take a commanding 3-0 lead which proved to be the final margin.
The Spartans were unable to mount much of an attack throughout the match despite outshooting their opponents 12-9. Ricardo Cardoso led the team with seven shots, three of which found their way to the Royals keeper.
Tampa returns to the pitch next Tuesday as they travel to Winter Park to take on Rollins in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
