Winter Park, Fla. - The Spartans (5-3, 1-1) had no answer for a rigid Rollins (6-4, 2-1) defense, falling to the Tars 1-0 on a late goal. The loss marks the second consecutive shutout for Tampa, both on the road.
The match remained scoreless into the 87th minute when Rollins capitalized on a corner kick that was cleared from the penalty area by the Spartans. Jacob Deloach recovered the ball for the Tars, and fired a driven shot from 40 yards past the Tampa keeper, giving Rollins the decisive 1-0 lead.
For the second straight match, Tampa outshot its opponents yet failed to score as it registered 14 shots, only four of which made it through to the Tars' keeper. Ricardo Cardoso led the stagnant Spartan attack with five shots in his 80 minutes of play.
The Spartans return to their home pitch on Saturday to host #1 Lynn in a Sunshine State Conference clash in the second game of a men's-women's doubleheader. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
