TAMPA, Fla. - Ricardo Cardoso scored Tampa's lone goal in its 2-1 loss to St. Thomas University on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans fall to 8-5 on the season with the loss, while the Bobcats improve to 3-10-1.
St. Thomas opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Dale Ardense found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Ardense scored again in the 39th minute to extend the advantage to 2-0 going into half time.
Cardoso brought the Spartans to within one in the 63rd minute, heading a cross from Pascal Milien past the St. Thomas keeper for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. The Spartans only managed the one goal despite outshooting the Bobcats 21-7.
Ryan Thompson made his first appearance of the season, playing the final 65 minutes in goal. Thompson allowed St. Thomas' second goal of the match and made two saves.
Tampa returns to the pitch at home on Saturday against Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
