#2 Spartans Take Down Tritons In SSC Play
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The No. 2 University of Tampa men's soccer team put up their second straight four goal game, taking down Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday night. The Spartans are now 10-0-1 on the season, 4-0 in conference play, while the Tritons drop to 5-7, 3-3 in the SSC.
Tampa took the early lead against Eckerd when Dominic Goncalves netted the ball in the sixth minute from Ryan Griffin. It was the second goal on the year for the freshman. The Spartans led the match for just over ten minutes before the Tritons' Anthony Arico beat goalkeeper Ryan Thompson to knot the match at 1-1.
Griffin quickly restored the one goal differential when he scored off a free kick from Dan Ingvarsson at the 23:43 minute mark. Thompson made six saves to preserve the lead in the first.
After taking a 2-1 lead into the half, Ingvarsson bent a free kick just outside the box into the back of the net in the 50th minute to put Tampa up two. In the 58th minute, Eckerd's Domenic Spedaliere saved an Ingvarsson free kick, but Ingvarsson put the loose ball past the keeper to round out the game's scoring at 4-1.
