Three Spartans Pick Up NSCAA All-American Awards
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Ryan Thompson headlined a group of three University of Tampa men's soccer players on the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American team. A first-team selection, Thompson was joined by teammates Dan Ingvarsson (second team) and Pascal Milien (third team) as honorees.
"We are very proud of the honor received and feel it is a great reflection of their commitment to our program the last four years," says head coach Adrian Bush.
Thompson, a senior goalkeeper from Kingston, Jamaica, is also the two-time reigning Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year. In 2009, he led UT to a 17-3-1 overall record and NCAA national quarterfinal appearance. He finished the season with a 0.88 GAA to go with four shutouts and 85 saves.
Ingvarsson, a senior defender from Malmo, Sweden, helped a Tampa defense that allowed just 0.86 goals per match. He also registered five goals and seven assists while notching a game-winning goal. While leading the Spartans in assists, he ranked third with 17 points.
Milien, a senior forward from Auburndale, Fla., was the lone player who was a repeat All-American among the 34 selections. While playing in all 21 games, Milien led Tampa with 12 goals. He also matched Ingvarsson for team honors with seven assists. Among his team-high six game-winning goals was a winner against then-No. 1 Lynn University (10/3/09).
Bush added, "as much as this is an honor on the field to three fantastic players, they are all far better people of character who we will miss."
The NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-America selections will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 16 as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
