Men’s Soccer Draws With FC Tampa Bay Rowdies In Exhibition
TAMPA, Fla. - Without seven starters from its fall squad, the University of Tampa men's soccer team drew to a 2-2 tie in an exhibition match with FC Tampa Bay Rowdies, Tampa's only professional soccer team.
The Spartans notched first half goals by Lister Warren in the second minute and Dominic Goncalves from Greg O'Connor and Warren in the 33rd. Adam Nowland from FC Tampa Bay added one for the Rowdies, whose other goal was a result of a Spartan own goal.
"I'm very proud of the effort from our players and I think it tells a lot about the depth of our program," UT Head Coach Adrian Bush said. "To lose seven starters and have our guys come in here and perform the way they did was great. We basically played with two teams each half-every guy played."
He continued, "I'm very pleased but we've got a long way to go and have to get better in a lot of areas."
The contest was played to benefit the American Red Cross' Haiti Relief Fund. Both clubs combined to raise over $5,200 for relief. Former Spartan and current Rowdie Pascal Milien played all 90 minutes of the contest.
