Spartans Defeat Florida Memorial on Late Goal
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Spartans (3-2) delivered a 1-0 win over the Florida Memorial Lions (3-3) in men's soccer action Tuesday night at Pepin Stadium.
The Spartans started off the game strong with several dangerous crosses into the Lion's defensive goal box. Junior Ryan Griffin produced the first of Tampa's four shots on goal in the 24th minute of the first half.
Tampa continued to maintain most of the game's ball possession
throughout the first half.
Several blocked shots headed for Florida Memorial's goal were
recorded as Tampa continued their pursuit towards the first goal of
the game.
Tampa's second and third shots on goal were recorded by senior Lister Warren, as sophomore Matt Davies tallied Tampa's fourth in the second half.
The game heated up towards the end of the second half, as two yellow cards were distributed to players from Florida Memorial's team, and one to Tampa.
With minutes remaining in the game, Warren crossed the ball deep into the Lion's box as Griffin made solid contact with the ball into the net. Tampa was able to hold on to the 1-0 lead as the remaining minutes diminished from the clock.
