Spartans Battle Warriors to 3-0 Win
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (5-2) men's soccer team documented their fourth consecutive win with a 3-0 triumph over Webber International University (1-5-1) at Pepin Stadium on Tuesday night.
Tampa, hungry to keep their winning streak alive, pressed hard towards Webber's goal, recording four of their total eight shots on goal in the first half. Senior Lister Warren recorded the Spartan's first shot on goal, followed by sophomore Matt Davies and Senior Juan Rivas each with a shot as well.
Finally, Tampa's pursuit of their first goal was fulfilled as junior David Gulec strung the ball through to teammate Andrej Gulan, who placed the ball just above the Warrior's goal keeper's hands.
The Spartan's offense continued to harass Webber's defensive line as sophomore Brock Jennings collected two additional shots on goal. Towards the middle of the second half, a free kick taken by sophomore Kemal Malcom was flicked forward off of Greg Sasser's head, and cunningly placed into the back of the Warrior's net by Senior Lister Warren.
Tampa's ending goal was scored off of a corner kick taken by sophomore Dominic Goncalves. The ball deflected in for Goncalves' second goal of the season.
"I'm pleased with the effort and most importantly, a clean sheet," Tampa head coach Adrian Bush said following the game.
The Spartans outshot the Warriors 19 to 10, eight of those shots on goal for Tampa, and six shots on goal for Webber.
"We start conference play on Friday against a very solid Saint Leo team," Bush noted. "It's another opportunity for our team to be tested by a nationally ranked opponent."
