Spartans Play To 1-1 Draw With FC Tampa Bay
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team came out with a 1-1 tie in a match with FC Tampa Bay on Saturday at Pepin Stadium.
"As a coach, you have to give so much credit to the players when they can have their backs against the wall and respond with so much character," says UT head coach Adrian Bush.
"Thirteen players, no seniors and playing a professional team, the odds were definitely not in our favor, continued Bush."
Kemal Malcolm scored the first goal of the game, giving the Spartans a 1-0 advantage. UT alum and current Rowdies star Pascal Millien later answered with the game-tying goal to preserve a draw for his professional team.
"I'm extremely proud of our team and it tells a lot about their character," says Bush. "Our goalkeeping was outstanding and we were very disciplined with our defensive shape in our defensive half. Kemal's goal was one of the best goals I have seen in my time at UT."
Lister Warren, UT's leading scorer from the 2010, was also a member of the Rowdies team as was former Spartan Chad Burt.
"As a fan of the Rowdies since I was a kid back in the NASL days, to now where we see so many kids from the Tampa area getting an opportunity. Ricky will do a great job and our program is very much behind FC Tampa Bay. We thank them for the opportunity."
