UT Men’s Soccer Set To Host Lynn
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (0-6-1, 0-2 SSC) men's soccer team takes the field at Pepin Stadium for a Saturday evening match at 7:00 p.m. against the Lynn University Fighting Knights (7-1, 3-0 SSC). This match will be UT's Sunshine State Conference home opener.
"Lynn returns one player from last year's team with about 10 grad students. This is an experienced team by age, and our season is on the line from here and out," says head coach Adrian Bush. "I am excited to see how our guys respond. Sometimes the most dangerous teams are the ones with nothing to lose."
Tampa is 12-16-1 all-time against Lynn, beating the Fighting Knights 1-0 last season on the road. The Spartans have won four straight over the Knights and seven of the last nine.
Ryan Griffin, a senior midfielder, leads all Spartans with three goals and 14 shots. Other notable scorers this season are: junior Dominic Cutrofello with two goals, freshman Andrew Clare with one goal and freshman Josh Freese with one goal.
UT has been outshot by its opponents 112-106 so far this season. UT is coming off of an overtime loss to Florida Tech last Saturday, by a 2-1 score. Through seven matches, the Spartans have played five overtime contests.
Lynn has outscored its opponents 16-3 this season. Senior midfielder Harald Gracholski and senior midfielder Heiko Eberhardt lead all Fighting Knights scorers with five goals apiece.
Gracholski has provided Lynn with four game winning goals. Since losing its 2011 opener to Harding, the Knights are winners of seven straight matches and are coming off a 3-0 shutout of Nova Southeastern.
