UT Men’s Soccer Prepares to Battle No. 10 Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (2-6-1, 2-2 SSC) men's soccer team takes the field at Pepin Stadium for a Saturday evening match at 7 p.m., against the No. 10 Barry University Buccaneers (7-1-2, 1-1-2 SSC).
Tampa is 16-10-2 all-time against Barry, but have struggled recently. The Buccaneers have won three of the last four meetings, including a 1-0 triumph at the 2010 NCAA South Regional last November where Barry eliminated the Spartans. BU defeated Tampa twice last season by one goal each time, with Tampa defeating the Bucs in the SSC tournament semifinals.
The Spartans have won back to back games after not recording a victory in their first seven contests. Its most recent victory came Thursday against conference rival Florida Southern College. Tampa won 3-1 behind two goals from senior Ryan Griffin, and one from junior Brian Fekete.
Coming off a near hat-trick, Griffin leads UT in shots (21), points (11), and goals (5). Junior Dominic Cutrofello has also helped pace the Spartans with three goals on the season.
The Buccaneers started off the season with seven consecutive wins; however, they have not won since September 21st. Their previous two matches both ended in ties.
Tampa will have to watch out for senior Mark Anderson. The Durham, England native has played exceptionally well for Barry this season, scoring 15 of their total 22 goals.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 (adults) and $3 (children and senior citizens). UT students will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
