Spartans Post Spring Victory Over Colombian Team
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team recorded a 3-2 win over Universidad de Nacional Colombia in a spring contest for the Spartans.
UT took a 2-0 lead to the half, behind goals from freshmen Craig Laird and Tyler Blackwood. Dominic Goncalves also registered an assist.
Colombia then scored a penalty kick to move within 2-1 on a call
against Brian Fekete in the box
from a corner kick. They evened the game at 2-2 on a poor pass from
the back that allowed a 1-on-1 with Spartan goalkeeper David
Niepel, putting it in the corner of the net.
With 5 minutes remaining, Fekete scored the eventual game-winner to put the game at 3-2 in favor of the home-field Spartans.
"I was happy with the performance (our quality of play) and result in the end," says head coach Adrian Bush. "We had two uncharacteristic mistakes by two of our top defenders, and a game can quickly turn as it showed tonight. I am happy that we kept our composure and got the win, this was a great experience to play a top college team from South America."
