Brian Fekete Selected in MLS Supplemental Draft
INDIANAPOLIS - Former University of Tampa men's soccer player Brian Fekete has been selected by Sporting KC in the third round of the 2013 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft.
"We are extremely proud of what Brian has been able to do in our program," says head coach Adrian Bush. "He's a model student-athlete that gets it done on and off the field."
A defender from Plant City, Fla., Fekete was a three-time All-American for the Spartans. The first-team all-Sunshine State Conference selection started all 17 games as a senior and registered one goal and four assists with leading the team with 1,495 minutes. His lone goal also went down as a game-winner against Florida Tech.
The four-year starter played a total of 69 games throughout his Spartan career, tallying seven goals and 15 assists. He also ranks third in UT history with 5,460 minutes played.
"Brian follows a long list of Spartan athletes that have made the jump to the pro level," states Bush. "Through his hard work, commitment and preparation, we feel he will find the same successes that he had here."
The Supplemental Draft consists of four rounds, which are called Rounds 1 through 4, but in many ways it is Rounds 3 through 6 of the SuperDraft.
The Supplemental Draft allows for only players who have finished their college eligibility and been nominated by an MLS club, as well as youth internationals made available by MLS. Fekete previously competed in the MLS Draft Combine on January 10-12.
