Spartans Push to Double Overtime, Fall 1-0 to Warhawks
TAMPA, Fla. – A grueling match-up between the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks defeat the Tampa Spartans 1-0 in double overtime.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time series: This is the second time this season and third time overall that the Spartans have faced off against the Warhawks and the Spartans lead the series 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF: The Spartan attack got off to a hot start with the first shot on goal by Juancho Fernandez (3") followed by Till Neumann (9"). Multiple foulds led to the Spartans being awarded multiple free kicks: Albert Morales (3"), Sean Quinn (6")(10")(17"), Fernandez (12"), and Nico Gamio (13"). Ornaldo Zequiri had a shot on goal to the bottom right of the net but the ball was saved by the Warhawks' keeper (18"). A yellow card was given to a Auburn-Montgomery player for unsporting. The Spartans would make one more attempt on goal by Marcello Valbuena (44"). The half ends 0-0.
SECOND HALF: The second half was characterized by much back and forth and an outstanding showing by Tampa's Adam Forster, who aggressively ventured out of the box to make preemptive saves. Zequiri had another shot on goal (59") and Forster recorded his first save in the 60th minute. Travis Foster had a shot on goal (62") and Fernandez had another (63"). Forster was awarded a free kick (66") and then moments later Travis Foster was given a yellow card for unsporting (67"). Forster had another save at 82 minutes. Neither team was able to score in regulation time.
1st OT: There were no shots on goal and no saves by either team. In the 10 minute period there were a total of four fouls given out, one on Tampa, three on Auburn-Montgomery.
2nd OT: A yellow card was given to an Auburn-Montgomery for unsporting. The Tampa attack made numerous attempts to score but none of their shots were on target. After a Tampa goal kick, with just moments left in the period, the Warhawks gained possession and scored a goal. Because overtime was sudden death, the match ended 1-0.
