Spartans Set to Begin 2023 Season with a Pair of Home Matchups
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team will kick off the 2023 season in non-conference play with a pair of home matches at Pepin Stadium. Action begins Saturday evening with the Tampa Spartans opening home play with a matchup against the #20 West Florida Argonauts. Tampa will then welcome Auburn-Montgomery to Pepin Stadium on Monday morning to finish off the weekend.

Monday, Sep. 04 vs. Auburn-Montgomery

About the 2023 Spartans: The Spartans are opening their 2023 campaign after finishing the 2022 season with an overall record of 7-7-3. This year's squad will consist of 11 returning players, including Nico Gamio, a graduate student from Melo, Uruguay. The defender recorded three points in his 17 games for the Spartans last season. Senior midfielder Carlos Ledon is also among the returning Spartans. Ledon suited up in 17 games for Tampa last season, scoring the game winning goal against Chowan. The Spartans are looking to start their season off strong at home.

The Argonauts finished their 2022 campaign with an overall record of 12-2-5. West Florida competed in the Gulf South Conference, finishing with an 8-0-3 record. This will be the 24th meeting between the teams, with Tampa leading the overall matchups 13-7-4.

The Warhawks finished their 2022 campaign with an overall record of 8-6-3. Auburn-Montgomery competed in the Gulf South Conference, finishing with an 8-6-3 record. This is the third meeting between the two teams, with Tampa leading the overall matchups 2-1-0.
