Spartans Pass Road Test in Victory Over Rollins
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams each defeated Rollins College, with the UT men winning 110-71 as the women took a 113-63 victory. In the second straight meet, UT's Alex Hetland set another school record, this time in the 200 IM.
UT's women kicked off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Ellie Eschleman, Allison Vetter, Lindsay Calimer and Madison Flake won in a time of 1:52.50.
Hannah Hudson had a pair of first-place finishes in individual competition, wining the 200 Free (1:58.14) and 500 Free (5:24.68). Also winning their races were Flake in the 50 Free (25.68), Vetter in the 200 IM (2:16.34), Calimer in the 100 Fly (59.53) and Eschleman in the 100 Back (1:00.92).
The Spartan men won their first event as the team of Matthew Kramer, Hetland, Paul LaPorta and Mike Verdi conquered the 200 Medley Relay in 1:33.47.
UT individuals championed 11 individual races, including victories by Chris O'Linger (1,000 Free, 9:48.58), Tyler Furrer (200 Free, 1:47.18), Verdi (50 Free, 22.38), Hetland (200 IM, 1:50.09), Robert Felton (200 Fly, 1:58.56), Shane Armbrister (200 Back, 2:04.57), Paul Patterson (200 Breast, 2:20.11), Patrick Murray (100 Fly, 53.26), Jeffrey Fiore (100 Free, 49.28), Matt Kramer (100 Back, 55.49) and Hunter Lineback (400 IM, 4:20.16).
Tampa returns to action next Saturday, when it travels to Florida Gulf Coast for a meet with FGCU and Florida Atlantic, both NCAA Division I teams. The event is scheduled to being at 12 noon. Fans may sign up for eScores, a free service that sends text message alerts on Spartan athletics.
