
Spartans Drop Trinity To Continue Fast Start
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams each picked up a victory over visiting Trinity (Texas) University. The Spartan men won by a 139-113 score as the women outscored the Tigers 141-100. The wins came one week after a pair of victories over Florida Southern to open the 2010-11 campaign.
In men's action, Tampa started the meet with a 200 Medley Relay victory by the team of Andrew Johnson, David Humphrey, Felipe Manzo and Brad Hines (1:38.56). Manzo also won the 50 Free (22.03) and Humphrey was first in the 100 Free (48.12).
The Spartans also recorded first-place performances in the 200 Free by Jeff Fiore (1:48.71), 100 Back by Jason Khoury (56.21), 100 Breast by Johan Melin (1:02.51), 200 Breast by Jonathan Wilks (2:21.48) and the 100 Fly by Les Moore (53.55).
UT's women also opened competition with a first-place showing in the 200 Medley Relay from the group of Ellie Eshleman, Lisa Bero, Lindsay Calimer and Vicki Munson (1:53.32).
Eshleman and Bero each captured two victories with Eshleman outpacing the competition in the 100 Back (1:02.26) and 200 Back (2:13.89). Bero was first in the 1,000 Free (10:57.70) and the 200 Breast (2:28.90).
Tampa also won the 200 Free with Sunshine State Conference Female Swimmer of the Week Heather Glenday (1:57.62), as she also captured the 100 Free (55.43). Michelle Walcker won the 100 Breast (1:11.37) as Amy O'Brien championed the 50 Free (25.70).
The Spartans return to the pool on Saturday versus Nova Southeastern in a Sunshine State Conference meeting from the UT Swimming Complex. The meet is scheduled for 11 a.m.
