Tampa Men and Women Defeat Wright State for First Time
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa swimming teams picked up a pair of victories against an NCAA Division I opponent, topping Wright State University in both the men's (151.5-101.5) and women's (150-112) races.
The pair of victories marked the first time the Spartans have defeated its annual opponent in both venues.
Tampa's men opened the race with a first-place showing in the 200 Medley Relay. The group of Berk Kahraman, Jonathan Wilks, Felipe Manzo and David Humphrey finished with a time of 1:36.67. UT also won the 200 Free Relay from David Humphrey, Andrew Johnson, Jason Khoury and Manzo in 1:26.65.
UT also captured individual victories from Norbert Kovacs in the 1,000 Free (9:56.41), 100 Fly (51.07) and 100 IM (54.90), Kahraman in the 50 Back (25.11) and 100 Back (53.28), Kevin Doran in the 50 Breast (27.94) and Manzo in the 50 Fly (23.75).
The Spartan women also won from Kristine Kassl in the 1,000 Free (10:55.36), Hilary Stetekluh in the 50 Back (28.90) and 100 Back (1:01.98), Lindsay Calimer in the 100 Free (59.15) and 50 Fly (26.87), Erin Plachy in the 100 Free (54.19) and Lisa Bero in the 100 Breast (1:10.84).
Head coach Ed Brennan's squad also championed the 200 Free Relay from Plachy, Kylie Piche, Kassl and Heather Glenday in a time of 1:40.59.
