Emory Tops Tampa in Dual Meet Action
TAMPA, Fla. - Emory University swam past the University of Tampa in men's and women's action, topping UT by a 177-83 women's score and 170-92 men's tally. Emory's women are ranked No. 1 in NCAA III as its men are No. 2. The Spartans are No. 9 and No. 13 respectively.
The Tampa men began the meet with a first-place showing in the 200 Medley Relay. Norbert Kovacs, Jonathan Wilks, David Humphrey and Felipe Manzo won in a time of 1:35.31. Humphrey also championed the 50 Free in 21.93 as Kovacs won the 100 Fly in 51.76.
Catherine Parker won three races for the Spartan women, including an NCAA B cut in the 200 Fly (2:08.38). Parker also won the 100 Fly (59.17) and the 200 IM (2:11.31). Kristine Kassl also won the 500 Free (5:19.64). UT also won the 200 Free Relay with Erin Plachy, Kylie Piche, Emily Grams and Kassl (1:42.69).
Tampa will host Sunshine State Conference opponent Rollins College on Saturday at 11 a.m., in its final home meet of the 2011-12 season. The meet will take place at the UT Swimming Complex. UT will offer a live video webcast through http://tampaspartans.tv/swimming/.
