Spartans Roll Through Indian River State in Friday Meet
Seniors Jeremy Parker and Runar Borgen recorded multiple first-place finishes to pace the No. 3 University of Tampa to a strong win.
TAMPA, Fla. – In its first of two weekend meets, the No. 11 University of Tampa men's swimming team jetted past powerhouse Indian River State College by a final score of 154.5-107.5 on Friday at the UT Aquatic Center.
The Spartans took first in 10 of the 14 events to best IRSC and begin the weekend of home meets on a strong note.
Senior Jeremy Parker picked up the first win of the meet for the Spartans, claiming the 200 yard freestyle with a "B" cut time of 1:40.35. The Tampa, Fla. native added another "B" standard effort, earning a first-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 20.47. Parker continued to dominate the freestyle sprints, adding a first-place finish in the 100 free behind a 45.59 time, another "B" cut standard time.
Fellow senior Runar Borgen added a top finish in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall with a 51.12, a season-best for the Bodo, Norway native. Borgen claimed the 100 yard fly later in the meet with a time of 50.33.
Increasing the Tampa lead was Victor Philaire, as the sophomore swam his way to a first-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:54.57.
Tommy Reminger took the first distance event of the meet by besting Indian River State in the 500 freestyle with a top-time of 4:42.42. Reminger also took the 1000 yard freestyle, touching the wall after 9:57.29.
Nearing the close of the meet, Marc-Olivier Caron notched a win in the men's 200 individual medley (IM), securing first place with a time of 1:55.97.
Winning the final event of the day, the Spartans combined for a first-place win in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Senior Khalid Aldaboos began with a 46.61 leg as Martin Hammer continued the momentum, finishing his 100 yards in 45.35 seconds. Jordan Augier set up a finish strong with 45.44 leg before Parker concluded the final 100 yards in just 44.49 seconds as Tampa outdueled IRSC.
The Spartans will close out their home slate of competition with a Saturday meet hosting the Tampa Relays at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9. A live webcast of the senior day meet will be made available through www.tampaspartans.com.
