Spartans Defeat Lions in UT Aquatics Center Farewell

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams completed their final meet at the UT Aquatics Center against Saint Leo on Sunday. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Men's Final: No. 14 Tampa Spartans 114.5, No. 25 Saint Leo Lions 67.5
Women's Final: No. 12 Tampa Spartans 145, No. 17 Saint Leo Lions 40

Location: UT Aquatics Center | Tampa, Fla. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The session totaled 20 events, including 10 for the men and 10 for the women.
• The women swept three of their events, and the men swept two.

TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):

• In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Parker Knollman placed second with a time of 1:41.60, Hugo Bustamante finished third with a time of 1:43.48.
• Jimmy Senese took first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.53. Brain Daugherty finished just behind at 21.62.
• The Spartans swept the 400 Yard IM. Ian Morgan took first place at 4:05.54. Grant Ruster was the runner up at 4:09.05. C.J. Hills rounded it out at 4:19.72.
• In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Kenan Dean finished second at 50.37. Nikki Fauteux placed third with a time of 50.92.
• Daugherty placed second in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 46.69. Johnny Knobel placed third at 47.39.
• In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Senese placed second with a time of 51.40. Knollman finished third at 51.47.
• Morgan captured first place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:41.82. Coleman Kramer earned a third place finish with a time of 4:42.95.
• The Spartans swept the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Jared Mindek placed first with a time of 57.93. Ruster placed second with a time of 58.89. Carter Murawski took third with a time of 1:01.44.
• The men's 200 Freestyle Relay, made up of Bustamante, Daugherty, Martin Slanschek, and Mikael Haugen took first place with a time of 1:23.39.

TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):

• Mady Barnes, Elizaveta Bazarova, Anja Oca, and Emma Chestang placed first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:44.28.
• In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Roma Vrijhof was the runner up with a time of 1:54.94. Guillian Zerpa placed third with a time of 1:57.53.
• The Spartans swept the 50 Yard Freestyle. Erika DiPietro placed first with a time of 24.38. Chestang placed second at 24.58, and Kate Elnicki finished third with a time of 24.97.
• Courtney Sherwood took first place in the Women's 400 IM with a time of 4:28.47. Teammate Madi Lauger finished right behind with a time of 4:28.69.
• The Spartans swept the 100 Yard Butterfly. Barnes took first at 57.05, Oca was the runner up at 57.11, and Katie Horan finished third at 57.63.
• DiPietro earned first place in the 100 Free with a time of 52.69. Vrijhof earned third place with a time of 53.07.
• In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Barnes finished on top, registering a time of 55.98. Emma Panaroni was the runner up at 58.08, and Sherwood turned in a time of 58.21 to earn third place.
• Holly Wessel earned first place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:04.28. Megan Goldthorpe finished in third place with a time of 5:08.50.
• Bazarova took first place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:03.58. Julia Majszutowicz finished just behind with a time of 1:06.28.
• The Women's 200 Freestyle Relay, made up of Chestang, Kristen Wagner, Elnicki, and Bazarova took first place with a time of 1:36.46.

UP NEXT:

The Spartans will host their annual Spartan Invite at the Clearwater Aquatic Center on December 17-20. Prelims will start at 10:00 a.m. each day with finals starting at 5:00 p.m. Fans will be able to watch live via TampaSpartans.tv and find results on the MeetMobile app.
