Tampa Grabs Big Lead After Day One of Spartan Invite
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams opened competition at the seventh-annual Spartan Invite, with both UT teams atop the standings.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Day One Team Scoring: Tampa 324, Indian River 219, St. Leo 131, Lenoir-Rhyne 67, Emory & Henry 31
Women's Day One Team Scoring: Tampa 326, West Florida 212, Indian River 120, St. Leo 74, Lenoir-Rhyne 36
Location: Doyle Aquatic Center at the Long Center | Clearwater, Fla.
MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
- Hayden Curley established a new school record in the 1,000 Free with a time of 8:56.58. Curley was nearly 8 seconds faster than the previous mark, which came from Chris O'Linger in 2009. Teammates Barnabás Flück and Joe Bozzi followed Curley, placing second and third respectively.
- The 50 Free was won by Tampa's Santiago Aguilera, who finished in a time of 20.17.
- UT claimed the win in the 200 Medley Relay, with Patrick Fry, Jared Mindek, Tibor Tistan and Aguilera being clocked at 1:28.53.
WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
- In the 1,000 Free, freshman Morgan Wimberly placed second overall with a time of 9:56.79.
- Mady Barnes took first in the 200 IM, being timed at 2:03.06.
- The 50 Free included Tilde Morin and Emily Van De Wiele placing second and third overall.
- The Spartans took first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:41.90 from Van De Wiele, Alli McFarland, Johanna Koether and Sophie Frece.
