
Tampa’s Santiago Corredor Honored as SSC Male Athlete of the Year Presented by S3 Design
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa swimmer Santiago Corredor has been named the 2023-24 Sunshine State Conference Male Athlete of the Year, presented by S3 Design. Corredor finished the season as the 500 Free individual national champion and played an integral part in UT's team NCAA title.
The Male Athlete of the Year award is voted on by Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from each of the 11 SSC member institutions.
The Fort Myers, Florida native led Tampa to the first NCAA Division II Men's Swimming Championship in SSC and Spartan program history. The 2024 SSC Swimmer of the Year's top performance of 2023-24 came in the 500 Free at the national meet, where he won the title with an SSC record time of 4:17.98.
Corredor's overall performance at the NCAA meet yielded All-America honors in the 500 Free, 200 Back, 200 IM, 400 IM, and 800 Free Relay. Along with the 500 Free, he also set SSC overall records in the 200 Back and 800 Free Relay at the national championship.
Corredor was crowned an individual SSC champion four times in 2023-24, winning the 400 IM, 500 Free, 200 Back, and 400 Free Relay. The senior's performance earned him a second consecutive SSC Swimmer of the Meet and First Team All-SSC honors. Corredor's overall performance at the SSC meet helped Tampa secure a second straight conference championship. Additional accomplishments for Corredor in 2023-24 include the 400 IM SSC overall record, two SSC Swimmer of the Week awards, and the NSU Shark Invitational Swimmer of the Meet award.
Corredor is the third swimming athlete to win the SSC Athlete of the Year since it became a league sport in 2010-11. He is the sixth Tampa student-athlete to be honored as SSC Male Athlete of the Year and the first since 2021-222.
