UT Women Remain in Top-10 Heading to Final Day of NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Friday marked the third day of competition for The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams at the 2021 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

  • The men's team is tied for 27th with a total of six points.
  • The Women's team is in sixth place with a total of 181.5 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The women competed in four of the five swimming events.
  • The men competed in one event. 

ALL-AMERICAN PERFORMANCES:

  • Julia Augustsson became the highest placing Spartan of the meet when she took the Bronze in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:02.28.
  • In the Women's 200 Yard Butterfly, Courtney Sherwood placed seventh with a time of 2:02.36.

HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICAN PERFORMANCES:

  • Madysen Barnes kicked off the session for UT by placing tenth in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 55.21.
  • In the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke, Angelo Russo placed 14th with a time of 48.13.
  • Elizaveta Bazarova places 16th finishing at 1:04.10 in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke.
  • With a time of 2:03.20, Lindsey Grater took tenth in the Women's 200 Yard Butterfly. Katie Horan registered a time of 2:06.78 and finished 15th.
  • The Women's 800 Yard Freestyle relay, which featured Hana van Loock, Grater, Sherwood, and Bazarova finished ninth with a time of 7:32.23.

UP NEXT:

The NCAA Championships conclude tomorrow starting at 11:00 a.m. with trials. Tampa will be represented in the 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, and 1,650 Freestyle. Fans can watch live on NCAA.com and view live results here.
