Lieberman Rallies to Help Spartans Defeat #26 Augusta State
TIFTON, Ga. - The 36th-ranked University of Tampa women's tennis team received a victory over a ranked team, defeating #26 Augusta State by a score of 5-4. The Spartans are now 2-1 on the season following a dramatic victory that was capped off by a come from behind win by freshman Jamie Lieberman.
The Spartans took two of the three doubles matches as the number-one team of Jessica Faber and Erin Heeder joined the three-singles team of Lindsey Pine and Caitlin Scudder as the victorious duos.
The four, five and six singles matches all went in favor of Tampa. Caitlin Scudder and freshman Kourtney Stark both recorded straight set wins from the five and six spots, as Lieberman won the four singles match.
After losing the first set 7-5, Lieberman edged her opponent (Sarah Jegat) by a 7-5 margin in the second set. With the other matches finished, Lieberman gave UT the overall victory after winning the third set by a score of 6-2.
The Spartans conclude the trip to Tifton, Ga., with a neutral site match tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Montevallo.
