Tampa Blanks Saint Leo
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The 36th-ranked University of Tampa tennis team got back on the winning track with a 9-0 sweep of Saint Leo. The Spartans improve to 4-3 with the victory as Saint Leo drops to 0-5. This also marks the second 9-0 win for UT this year, who also shutout Montevallo.
Tampa, who received a forfeit victory at the number-three doubles spot, added a pair of victories from the number-one team of Erin Heeder and Jessica Faber while the two-team of Jamie Lieberman and Kourtney Stark were also in the winners column. Lieberman and Stark completed the 8-0 sweep of their opponents.
In singles, Erin Heeder registered a 7-6 victory in the first set on a 7-2 tie breaker and used the momentum to win 6-4 in the second set. Jessica Faber notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the two spot while Caitlin Scudder played the three spot for the first time of the season and was successful with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Freshman Kourtney Stark added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number-four while Claire Darling and Allison Beck rounded out the singles field with victories at the five and six spots, respectively.
The Spartans return home where they will play host to #24 Florida Southern in another non-Sunshine State Conference matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
