Spartans Ace Pfeiffer After Gaining Highest Ranking Ever
TAMPA, Fla. - In its first match since the highest ranking in program history, the 27th-ranked University of Tampa tennis team failed to disappoint in an 8-1 victory over Pfeiffer University (N.C.). The Spartans improve to 9-5 with the win as Pfeiffer drops to 7-5 on the season.
The lone blemish for UT came at the number-two singles spot as the Spartans rolled to victories in each of the other contests. After sweeping the doubles competition, the Spartans recorded five straight set sweeps in singles action with number-one player Erin Heeder leading the way.
In singles action, Kourtney Stark was victorious at the three spot while four, five and six players Caitlin Scudder, Allison Beck and Claire Darling all posted lopsided victories.
In doubles, the top team consisting of Heeder and Jessica Faber won by a score of 8-2 as Stark and Jamie Lieberman triumphed in the two position. The three team of Beck and Scudder were also no match for their opponents.
UT returns to the court on Thursday as they play host to #31 Indianapolis at 3 p.m.
