Spartan Tennis Earns First NCAA Tourney Appearance in Program History
TAMPA, Fla. - The 38th-ranked University of Tampa tennis team has been selected to participate in the 2007 NCAA II Tournament, marking the first postseason appearance in program history. The Spartans will meet 10th-ranked Nova Southeastern in the first round of the Southeast Regional in Fort Lauderdale in a two versus seven meeting in the eight team field.
At 15-9, the Spartans have already set a school record for victories in a season while securing their first winning season since 1993. While playing one of the nation's toughest schedules, UT played 11 matches against nationally ranked teams while winning two against ranked opponents this season.
The Southeast Region II Tournament will be played at the Broward Community College Tennis Complex. The 16 first and second round tournaments will be conducted May 3-4 or 4-5, with the winner of each first and second round tournament advancing to the finals in Altamonte Springs, Fla., with the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College serving as co-hosts, May 9-12.
