St. Pete College Rallies Past Spartans
TAMPA, Fla. - Playing a national powerhouse from the junior college ranks, the No. 37 University of Tampa (2-13) tennis team fell by a 6-3 score to St. Petersburg College (7-1). The Titans are ranked No. 5 nationally in the NJCAA.
The Spartan doubles team of Ally Wooten and Briana Ryan notched the lone doubles win for UT. Playing in the number three match, the duo defeated Jaime Bracic/Madlena Gueorguiev by an 8-3 score.
In singles, Tampa had wins from Nikol Williams and Briana Ryan. Williams defeated Stephanie Dunseith by a 6-3, 6-4 score at number four as Ryan triumphed at number six over Vanessa McCall 6-1, 6-0.
Tampa dropped a pair of singles matches in the third set, with Kourtney Stark and Wooten losing by the slimmest of margins at the number one and six spots respectively. Stark was defeated by a 10-8 tiebreak score in the third set as Wooten lost 6-4.
UT is back on the court on Tuesday as it travels to Saint Leo University to meet the Lions in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
