Tampa Opens Season With Dominating Win Over Warner
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (1-0) tennis team opened its 2012 season in impressive fashion with a 9-0 blowout oif visiting Warner University (0-1) on Friday afternoon at the UT Tennis Complex. The event had nearly 100 fans in attendance.
UT lost just one game in doubles action, sweeping the number-one and three matches by an 8-0 tally as the number-two competition ended with an 8-1 Spartan triumph. Meg Wladimirski and Megan Mancini played number-one doubles for Al DuFaux's Spartans while Leslie Raymond and Lauren Hewett were at the two spot. Thashia Garcia and Briana Ryan played number-three doubles.
Singles play was just as lopsided as doubles as the only Warner wins came with two games at the number-six spot.Wladimirski, Garcia, Raymond, Hewett and Mancini won the one through five matches 6-0, 6-0 as Chloe Pereira won at number-six by a 6-2, 6-0 score.
The Spartans return to the court on Saturday as it plays host to St. Petersburg College at 1 p.m.
