Spartans Flex SSC Muscle in Win Over West Alabama
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (6-8) tennis team outdueled the University of West Alabama (7-8) in a 7-2 Spartan win on Friday at the UT Tennis Complex. The NCAA South Region match featured a Sunshine State Conference versus Gulf South Conference meeting of teams.
The Spartan number-one doubles team of Meg Wladimirski and Lauren Hewett continued to dominate opponents, topping UWA's top duo by an 8-0 mark. Thashia Garcia and Briana Ryan also won 8-1 from the number-three position to give Tampa two of the three doubles matches.
In singles, Garcia, Hewett, Wladimirski and Leslie Raymond each took the top-four matches in straight sets. Megan Mancini won a deciding third set to claim a UT victory at five singles.
The Spartans will hit the court again on Saturday in their final home match of the 2012 season. UT will play host to NCAA Division I opponent University of New Orleans at 3 p.m.
